Ingredients

  • 3 hot dog buns
  • 3 hot dogs or sausages (your choice: beef, chicken, or plant-based)
  • 3 iceberg lettuce leaves
  • 6-9 slices pickled cucumber
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 3 tbsp mayo (pre-tinted with blue food coloring)
  • 1 slice white cheddar cheese (for cutting out stars)

Method

  1. Start by cooking the hot dogs (or brats if you’re using them) to your preference — grilled, boiled, or pan-seared.
  2. While they’re cooking, tint the mayonnaise with blue food coloring and transfer it into a piping bag or squeeze bottle for a clean, decorative drizzle.
  3. Line each bun with a crisp iceberg lettuce leaf. Add 2–3 slices of pickled cucumber. Place the hot dogs on top.
  4. Drizzle ketchup in a bold stripe along the brats or hot dogs, followed by a decorative drizzle of blue mayonnaise to represent the patriotic color scheme.
  5. Using a small star-shaped cutter, cut cheese stars from the cheddar slice and gently place them on top of the blue mayo section to echo the stars of the flag.
