  • 3 cups puffed rice cereal
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 5 oz mini marshmallows
  • A few drops orange food coloring
  • Sesame pretzel sticks cut into 1-inch pieces
  • Green fondant for leaves

  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Mixing bowl
  • Ice cream scoop (optional)
  • Nonstick spray or butter for hands

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a large saucepan over low heat.
  2. Add the mini marshmallows and stir until completely melted.
  3. Mix in the orange food coloring until the mixture is evenly tinted.
  4. Add the puffed rice cereal and stir until well coated.
  5. While still warm, scoop out portions and shape the mixture into small pumpkin-like balls.
  6. Insert a 1-inch piece of sesame pretzel stick into the top of each ball to form the stem.
  7. Cut small leaves out of green fondant.
  8. Attach the fondant leaves next to each stem for decoration.
  9. Let cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • For toddlers, make smaller pumpkins that are easy for little hands to hold. Supervise when serving with pretzel sticks to prevent choking.
  • Use natural food coloring if you prefer avoiding artificial dyes.
  • This recipe makes a great classroom party snack since it is nut-free (just double-check your pretzel brand for cross-contamination).
  • You can experiment with different colors and shapes for other holidays—like turning them into Christmas ornaments with red and green coloring.
