Ingredients
  

  • 1 sheet puff pastry thawed
  • 5 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1 ½ tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat together cream cheese, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth and creamy.
  3. Cut the puff pastry sheet into 6–8 equal rectangles.
  4. Arrange pastry rectangles on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Spoon or pipe the cream cheese mixture into the center of each rectangle.
  6. Whisk the egg with water to make an egg wash, then brush it onto the pastry edges.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden and puffed.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

This recipe is family-friendly and can be enjoyed by toddlers in moderation. For a fun variation, add jam or fruit before baking. Store leftovers in the fridge and reheat in the oven to keep them crisp. For make-ahead convenience, freeze unbaked pastries and bake directly from frozen.
